According to President Tran Thanh Man of the VFF Central Committee, in the face of the heavy losses in life and property of local people in the Central and Central Highlands provinces due to continuous storms and floods, the Front system continues to receive support and donations from the relevant agencies, organisations, businesses and philanthropists both at home and abroad, as well as from international friends.
Man said that in this post-disaster time, more resources are needed to help local people overcome difficulties in housing and restore production, while assisting local authorities repair infrastructure and carry out social welfare works.
From the support received, the Front and its member organisations always closely monitor the distribution to ensure publicity and transparency and avoid duplication, Man said, emphasising that overcoming natural calamity is an urgent task today to help victims repair their houses, restore livelihoods, ensure all conditions for students to back to school and help them feel secure to welcome the upcoming Lunar New Year.
Earlier on November 27, Man received a donation of VND863 million from Vietnamese traders in Berlin, Germany, as well as VND137 million from Ninh Binh Province natives residing in Germany.
This morning (Nov 28), the Government Office together with Pou Chen Group (Taiwan, China) presented gifts to three central provinces of Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Quang Nam, which have been affected by the recent natural disasters and floods. Pau Chen Group, through the Government Office, donated VND6 billion to the three provinces (VND2 billion each) to help the local people overcome the losses caused by natural disasters and floods.

On the afternoon of November 27, within the framework of the Tourism Development Linkage Forum between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and the Economic Region In the central region, the VFF’s chapter in Ho Chi Minh City supported five central localities, including Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Thua Thien Hue, Binh Dinh and Da Nang, with an amount nearing VND30 billion to help in overcoming the consequences of the recent storms and floods.
Hoi An South Development and the VinaCapital Foundation also donated VND7 billion to Quang Nam to rebuild the local health system in mountainous areas.
More than VND12 billion worth of scholarships for new students and support of nearly VND300 million for students in the central provinces was awarded on November 28 by Dong A University in Da Nang, on the occasion of the opening of its new school year 2020-2021.
On the occasion, the Nguoi Lao Dong (Labourers) Newspaper also presented money donated from its readers to Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai and Binh Dinh, worth a total of VND1.7 billion, as well as awarded 50,000 national flags to fishermen in five localities of Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai and Binh Dinh.
On November 27, in Dong Ha City, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development coordinated with the People's Committee of Quang Tri Province to organise a conference to promote the recovery of agricultural production in the central region post disaster.
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Vietnam on November 27 announced that it will present 60 tonnes of products treating malnutrition for children living in disaster-hit areas of the country’s central region. Accordingly, more than 4,000 children suffering from acute malnutrition are set to receive aid within the next three months. Some 10 tonnes of the products were delivered to health clinics through the National Institute of Nutrition and the remainder will arrive in Vietnam in the upcoming weeks. The organisation has to date raised a total of US$2.6 million to help meet urgent needs of the most vulnerable children as well as families and communities in worst-hit regions.
The government has decided to support more than VND381 billion for 11 northern mountainous provinces of Bac Kan, Lang Son, Ha Giang, Dien Bien, Phu Tho, Cao Bang, Tuyen Quang, Son La, Hoa Binh, Lai Chau and Lao Cai to overcome the consequences of hail, thunderstorms, floods, flash floods and landslides during the first eight months of 2020.
