This issue was also raised for discussion at the forum titled "Connecting agricultural science and technology products with businesses, cooperatives, and people" which was organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in Hanoi, on July 10.
Sharing at the forum, Dr. Nguyen Cong Tiep, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture, said the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture is currently the leading unit in research and teaching, with the motto of both training, just researched. Besides training, the academy strengthens research activities with the motto of researching what the market needs.
From a business perspective, Tran Kim Lien, Chairwoman and CEO of Vietnam National Seed Group Joint Stock Company (Vinaseed Group), affirmed that public-private cooperation is essential to make the most of social resources and connect research with the market in the current period.
Vinaseed wants to participate more deeply throughout the entire crop production value chain, from purchasing copyright, transferring, and testing varieties to putting them into production and investing in harvest and post-harvest technology.
Tran Kim Lien proposed that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development select ideas from institutes and schools that are based on science and technology and identify specific investment portfolios, thereby creating conditions for small and medium enterprises to participate in the value chain.
Minister Le Minh Hoan agreed with Vinaseed's recommendation and said that it is necessary to ensure transparency in the Ministry's science and technology projects to create conditions for businesses to participate more deeply.
The Minister noted that when institutes, schools, and scientists have good scientific products, they need to pay attention to communication factors to close the gap between scientific topics and practical applications.
Emphasising the main purpose of the forum is connecting businesses with institutes and schools; scientists and businessmen to cooperate for development, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development said that businesses need to establish a communications department to provide information to customers and other businesses.
Within the framework of the forum, eight signing ceremonies for scientific product transfers were held, as witnessed by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development and delegates.
Along with that, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development organises a space to display and introduce products, technologies, and outstanding research results of institutes, schools, and businesses.
