The state president stressed that Vietnam considers the US one of its top partners and said Vietnam wanted to boost the US - Vietnam comprehensive partnership on the basis of respect and dedication to peace, stability and development in the region.
He also asked the US Congress to support the promotion of a balanced trade relationship and create better access for goods to each other's market.
He hoped that the US would have a consistent policy on the East Sea, and support the maintenance of freedom, security, and safety of navigation, respect international law.
Senator John McCain said he supported the settlement of disputes in the East Sea through peaceful means in line with international law and with respect to diplomatic and legal processes. The US senator said he believed the US-Vietnam co-operation would further develop.
