Ever since its inception, this ritual intends to not only pray for people’s good health, fruitful trees, crops and favourable climate but also to contribute to the protection of the forests. Thanks to this tradition, the forests here are well protected with a number of rare big trees being kept intact, including Fokienia, wild weeping cypress and Spanish cedar. The management, exploitation and protection have been transcribed in rules and conventions by local communities. The Forest God Worship ritual of Nung ethnic people in Ha Giang Nung continues to play a role in contemporary society as it highlights the need to protect Vietnam’s environment.
