The six foreign sponsors included MAG, Peace Trees Vietnam, Plan International, Zhishan Foundation, Projec Viennam Foundation, and Medipeace.
The conference was jointly held by provincial People’s Committee and the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) to seek ways to strengthen cooperation and to mobilise foreign non-governmental aid to the province for the 2020-2025 period.
It saw the participation of leaders of Quang Tri Province and nearly 200 representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, VUFO, international organisations, and foreign sponsors.
Addressing the event, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Hoang Nam highly valued the great support granted by the Party, National Assembly, Government, and ministries as well as international organisations and sponsors in implementing programmes and projects in Quang Tri.
He also reaffirmed the provincial authorities’ consistent policy to work closely with and create the most favourable conditions for NGOs and partners for the effective use of foreign aid in the coming time.
He informed the delegates at the during the 2014-2019 period, there were 67 active NGOs and international organisations in Quang Tri, operating 226 projects with total non-refundable aid of US$99 million.
The projects mostly focused on the fields of healthcare, education and training, addressing war consequences, supporting people with disabilities, natural disaster mitigation, and relief.
In the 2020-2025 period, these programs and projects will focus on facilitating economic and social development, adapting to climate change, overcoming the consequences of unexploded ordnances (UXOs), and addressing social problems.
At the event, the provincial People’s Committee awarded certificates of merit to 10 collectives and 11 individuals for their contributions in attracting foreign aid to the locality in 2014-2019 period.
