Football: La Liga confirm five players test positive for COVID-19

VTV.vn - Five players from Spain's top two leagues have tested positive for coronavirus, La Liga confirmed on Sunday (May 10).

The five players, who have not been officially named, will now be quarantined at home and tested again in the next few days. They will be allowed to rejoin their club's training programme only after obtaining two consecutive negative test results.

* Formula One is working to put on a British Grand Prix in July even if the country imposes quarantine measures on visitors during the COVID-19 crisis, F1 sources said on Sunday.

* Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova and World No. 3 Karolina Pliskova are among the players who will compete in an all-Czech Republic tournament in Prague on May 26-28. The tournament comes at a time when the WTA and ATP tours have been shut down since March 8 due to the coronavirus pandemic. There will also be a men’s event.

* Brighton chief executive Paul Barber on Sunday revealed a third player at the Premier League club has tested positive for the coronavirus, raising fresh concerns about the attempt to finish the English top-flight season. The unnamed player was tested on Saturday and will self-isolate for 14 days while he recovers from the virus.

* Afghanistan wicketkeeper-batsman Shafiqullah Shafaq has been hit with a six-year ban after he accepted four charges of breaching their Anti-Corruption Code, the country's cricket board (ACB) said on May 10. The charges relate to offences during the first edition of the Afghanistan Premier League T20 in 2018, where Shafaq played for the Nangarhar Leopards, and the 2019 Bangladesh Premier League, where he represented Sylhet Thunder.

* George Russell, yet to score a point for his struggling Williams team in the real world of Formula One, celebrated a virtual Spanish Grand Prix victory from pole position on Sunday. The Briton took his first F1 esports win ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, who collected a three second penalty for exceeding track limits on the penultimate lap.

* Georges St-Pierre will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2020, the organization announced. St-Pierre, who is a former UFC welterweight and middleweight champion, fought 22 times during a UFC career that spanned from January 2004 to November 2017. The 38-year-old Quebec native posted a 20-2 record in UFC and ended his career on a 13-fight win streak.
