The film is inspired by the life and contributions of artist Chu Bao Que, who has devoted his career to researching and preserving this Vietnamese cultural heritage. It was produced under the direction of Dr Biswaroop Roy Chowdhury, Editor-in-Chief of the India Book of Records and President of the World Records Union.
The film tells the story of the bond between Quan Ho folk singing and a young Indian artist, and her journey back to Quan Ho through dreams.
The film also features artistic consultancy and performances by honorary professor and artist Chu Bao Que, whose contribution helped shape the artistic depth of the film and ensured the authenticity and original spirit of Quan Ho when it was brought to international audiences.
The film is based on the book "The Heritage Protector", written by Dr Biswaroop Roy Chowdhury, which tells the story of artist Chu Bao Que.
The work has impressed audiences with its distinctive approach to exploring the World Heritage-listed Quan Ho folk singing tradition. More than just a film, it opens a richly Vietnamese cultural space in which the melodies of Quan Ho become a bridge connecting people, linking tradition with modern life.
Speaking after receiving the Best International Film award, artist Chu Bao Que said he was honoured to receive the prize and expressed his deepest thanks to the Party and the State of Viet Nam for giving him the opportunity to study and contribute from the beginning of his artistic career to the present day.
He also expressed gratitude to those who have accompanied him on his journey, including researchers and artists in Viet Nam as well as Indian artists, singers, actors, directors, and filmmakers who helped bring the story to life, so that the heritage of Quan Ho and Vietnamese culture would no longer remain "silent" in museums but become vivid and closer to the public.
The recognition and honour given to the film "Love Garden - Prem Ki Surdhara" at the 8th Haryana International Film Festival is not only a personal joy for artist Chu Bao Que but also a source of pride for both Vietnamese and Indian cultures as they are welcomed and appreciated by international audiences.The victory of "Love Garden - Prem Ki Surdhara" at HIFF is not only of artistic significance but also an important step in promoting Vietnamese culture to the world. Through the film, the spiritual values of Quan Ho folk singing have been introduced in a vivid and accessible way to international audiences.
The 8th Haryana International Film Festival took place from March 25 to 28 in the city of Kurukshetra, India, and was jointly organised by Kurukshetra University and Sanskriti – Society for Art & Cultural Development.
This year’s festival brought together participants from 38 countries and territories, featuring 26 languages and around 80 selected films. Viet Nam and the Kingdom of Morocco were chosen as the two focus countries, creating opportunities for works rich in national cultural identity to reach a wider international audience.
