VTV.vn - The United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific will honour Pham Thi Huan for "her outstanding agricultural production achievements in the context of increasing climate change challenges.

She is known to have helped many female farmers switch to raising ducks for eggs, after growing rice and other crops has become difficult due to climate change.

These eggs have been purchased from farmers before being taken to Ba Huan's screening office for examination and selection. Ba Huan has guided farmers in setting up a closed production line of breeding, processing and distribution. Her egg brand helps thousands of households in the Mekong Delta earn a stable income, especially when drought and salinity hit. Always helping farmers overcome difficulties, Ba Huan's efforts have been recognised by FAO.

Ba Huan has decided to devote her life to helping farmers. She has created jobs for many female farmers and enhanced women's standing in respective communities. In 2012, she was awarded by The International Alliance for Women (TIAW) for her contribution. To her, the upcoming award from FAO not only gives her a sense of happiness, but also challenges her to continue her efforts to support farmers in an era of climate change.

The award will be presented at a ceremony held in Bangkok on October 17 to recognise farmers' achievements, under the theme "Climate is changing, food and agriculture must too". Ba Huan will receive the "Model Farmer" award along with others from Fiji, Mongolia, Pakistan, and Thailand.
