A spokesman for Facebook in Italy said that it removed 23 Italian accounts that were spreading "false information and divisive content" over issues such as migration, vaccines, and anti-Semitism.
The accounts combined had more than 2.46 million followers. The European Union has already warned people about foreign interference. In April, the European Commission urged Google, Facebook, and Twitter to do more to tackle fake news before the poll.
Facebook set up an election operations center in Ireland / to monitor misinformation over the course of the 2019 European elections.
