EU leaders discuss top jobs

The European Union election means new people will take over key EU institutions, including the powerful executive Commission. The candidates, put forward by the EU's heads of state or government in the European Council, must be endorsed by a majority of the Members of the European Parliament. The EU leaders agreed to finalize their nominations at their next gathering due on June 20-21, in time for the new EU chamber's first sitting due on July 2.
