Speaking at the event, Politburo member Le Hong Anh said that over the past three years, the GDP contribution of co-operatives had picked up, however, economic efficiency among co-operatives is low, their scale is often small, and their technological and management capacities remain sub-par.
Developing new-style co-operatives could be a solution to this problem, said Politburo member Nguyen Thien Nhan in his speech at the event. Co-operatives are being urged to assume more responsibilities that are beyond the capacity of individual farmers, such as sourcing loans, training, doing market research and finding distribution channels. Co-operative members should focus on their core strengths which is production.
