The statue design depicting a mother standing on shore with a hurricane lamp was selected by the judges as an ideal way of underlining the dedication and commitment of soldiers serving on the islands.
The memorial, which will cover 2 hectares, was an initiative of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour and Quang Ngai Province. Construction of the memorial is expected to start on January 11 next year and will take a year./.
