Da Nang targets to mobilise 5 billion VND to support disadvantaged people during humanitarian month

VTV.vn - The central city of Da Nang targeted to mobilise 5 billion VND during humanitarian month, which was launched by the city’s Red Cross Society on April 26.

The money will be used to support 15,000 people from poor households and those living in difficulties in the city.

During the month, which will run until May 31, the city Red Cross Society will focus on three major programmes, including ‘Improving nutrition for poor and disabled children’, ‘Ensuring safety for poor and disadvantaged fishermen’, and ‘Granting scholarships and bicycles for students with difficult conditions at elementary schools in Quang Nam province’.

Several activities will also be carried out in response to the month, such as the construction of social houses, the delivery of 10,000 free meals to disadvantaged people, the provision of free health check-ups to 1,000 people, the launch of a blood donation programme, and organisation of first aid training for 1,000 people.

At the launch ceremony, the organising board received more than 1.4 billion VND donated by individuals and organisations. The money was donated to build houses for the poor, provide vocational training for workers, and present scholarships to local students.
