With the development of technology, the forms of copyright infringement are becoming more sophisticated. What is more seriously is that behind these acts are malicious activities that negatively affect the public's mindset, order, and security.
Copying YouTube channels with artificial intelligence to make money, post ads on social media, and use AI technology: From an original video, account owners can create a series of edited videos to circumvent the copyright scanning tools of social media platforms.
"Enforcing copyright across all platforms is very difficult. Now with the AI tool, with just one command, people can create hundreds, thousands of different videos from one original. We have suffered revenue losses", said Mr. Pham Van Ngoc, Director of Mummii Media Company.
Sports broadcasts, especially football, suffer the most from copyright nfringement. The main breaches include live-streaming on social media, websites, and illegal online TV viewing apps, as well as reposting highlights on social media. Notably, sports copyright infringements hide many illegal activities , such as gambling, loan shark advertisements, and scams to steal personal data. Statistics show that in a 90-minute football match on three illegal websites in Vietnam, each site contains between 25 and 50 gambling ads.
"97% of illegal websites are distributing content related to football betting, malware, adult content, and fraud", said Mr. Bui Trung Hieu, Head of Technical Services at Vietnam Satellite Television.
There are many tactics for digital copyright infringement, such as breaking up content, editing and splicing, fast-forwarding, creating commentary clips, and posting to social media. Another common form is live-streaming from fake accounts. The high profits motivate these individuals to spend large sums of money to organize live streams, only to have their channels blocked afterwards.
"In one live-stream session, they might spend VND50 million or VND100 million a day, and that’s normal. And when the desperate gamblers show up, just one player can fund an entire advertising campaign", said Mr. Doan Ky, Director of 3 Do Agency.
More dangerously, many news channels illegally use images from official press agencies and insert distorted and false content to post on social media, attracting hundreds of thousands of views. As technology advances, the forms of copyright infringement in cyberspace are becoming increasingly sophisticated, which calls for decisive action by regulators and social media platforms. Users need to be more aware and responsible and not tolerate actions that violate copyright laws.
Copyright enforcement is also important for promoting innovation and economic development. Therefore, international cooperation between law enforcement agencies and relevant private sector intermediaries should be strengthened to address this issue, especially as the amount of digital content showing signs of copyright infringement in cyberspace is large, diverse, and transnational.
