VTV.vn - MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) has been a key tourism sector that Da Nang has focused on developing for many years.

The fact that Da Nang has been chosen as the venue for events by organisations, businesses, and corporations at the beginning of 2025 demonstrates the city’s credibility and attractiveness in the MICE tourism industry. This contributes to enhancing Da Nang’s position on the international tourism map.

Strengthening destination promotion

Over the past decade, Da Nang has developed outstanding tourism infrastructure, including a five-star international terminal and more than 100 hotels with 4-5-star rankings under renowned brands. Leveraging its natural advantages, Da Nang has diversified its tourism offerings to cater to a wide range of visitors while promoting its brand as "Asia’s Leading Festival and Event Destination", an award granted by the World Travel Awards in 2022 and 2024.

In 2024, the prestigious US travel magazine Condé Nast Traveller ranked Da Nang as the only Vietnamese city in the top travel destinations in Asia and the second-best place among 11 must-visit locations in the region. Expanding and attracting high-end leisure travellers, golf tourists, and MICE visitors has become a major focus of Da Nang’s tourism sector.

At the beginning of 2025, Da Nang welcomed 226 MICE visitors from Bota-P World Co., Ltd., a leading Thai enterprise, for a tourism experience filled with exciting activities and luxury relaxation. Around the same time, Da Nang hosted the Tamil Business Conference from February 21-22, attracting over 300 international guests from more than 30 countries, including India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, and South Africa.

This conference not only aims to foster business cooperation among Tamil enterprises but also to strengthen trade relations across Asia. Additionally, the CTM Asia Conference and All Stars Awards 2025, which took place in Da Nang from February 26-28, attracted around 70 experts in MICE, free independent travel, and luxury tourism from Asian and international markets.

Da Nang’s tourism sector continues to participate in promotional events, targeting the Indian and Middle Eastern markets, which have strong demand for MICE and wedding tourism. Promoting Da Nang as a prime destination for Indian MICE and wedding tourists reinforces the city’s appeal, with modern event venues, diverse options, and professional services.

Recognising the importance of culinary experiences, Da Nang has over 25 Indian restaurants, catering not only to Indian visitors but also to international tourists. In mid-February 2025, for the third consecutive year, Da Nang’s Department of Tourism participated in the SATTE 2025 fair to promote the city in the Indian market. India currently ranks as the fourth-largest source of international tourists to Da Nang.

Cao Tri Dung, Chairman of the Da Nang Tourism Association, stated that in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, the association will encourage businesses to actively participate in promotional campaigns, develop standout tourism packages, and enhance its marketing efforts both domestically and internationally.

These efforts bring high expectations for Da Nang’s tourism industry in 2025, with a target of attracting over 11.9 million visitors, a 10% increase from 2024 and 149% of the 2019 figure. This includes more than 4.8 million international tourists and over 7.1 million domestic travellers. Combined revenue from accommodation, dining, and travel services is expected to exceed 36 trillion VND, growing by over 16% compared to 2024 and reaching 169% of 2019 levels.

Elevating high-quality services

According to plans, Vietnam Airlines, Emirates, and Myanmar Airways will launch several key routes, including Bangkok-Da Nang, resuming on March 30 with four flights per week and Yangon-Da Nang, operated by Myanmar Airways, from April 2 with two flights per week. Dubai-Bangkok-Da Nang route is expected to be launched by Emirates Airlines in June 2025, while Osaka-Da Nang, operated by Vietnam Airlines, is stated for operation from July 3 with four flights per week.

Nguyen Duc Quynh, Chairman of the Da Nang Hotel Association and General Director of Furama Resort Da Nang, emphasised that 2025 presents a strong opportunity for tourism growth in Da Nang and Central Vietnam, supported by new international flight routes.

He explained that the expansion of international air connections will provide a significant boost to Da Nang’s tourism industry and the Central Vietnam region. With improved connectivity to key markets like Thailand, Myanmar, Japan, and the Middle East, Da Nang expects a surge in international visitors, driving economic growth and solidifying the city’s position on the global tourism map.

"These are all high-potential markets with large numbers of tourists and increasing travel demand. Expanding flight routes will help Da Nang attract more visitors and create opportunities for international investors and businesses. Strengthening these connections will also enhance luxury tourism segments such as MICE and wellness tourism," said Quynh.

The sharp increase in international visitors underscores the need for Da Nang’s tourism sector to upgrade its service quality and infrastructure. Enhancing services at Da Nang International Airport is crucial to meet the growing demand, especially from high-end travellers.

Hotels, resorts, and accommodation providers must be well-prepared to meet the expectations of luxury travellers by investing in premium amenities such as spas, swimming pools, and five-star restaurants to cater to guests from Dubai and Japan. Integrating smart technology, such as online booking and check-in services, will also be essential.

Travel agencies have been effectively implementing these strategies, leaving a lasting impression on tourists and strengthening Da Nang’s reputation as a top MICE destination.

Nguyen Son Thuy, Director of Visit Indochina Co., Ltd., stated: "Da Nang has an ideal position for MICE tourism with immense potential. In 2024, we welcomed a 450-person Indian MICE delegation for a nine-day stay, along with several MICE groups from Thailand and Malaysia ranging from 50 to 200 guests. In 2025, Da Nang will introduce new tourism products and continue its MICE-friendly policies to attract more business visitors. This is a positive signal for larger, high-profile MICE delegations in the future."

Truong Thi Hong Hanh, Director of the Da Nang Department of Tourism, reaffirmed that Da Nang is steadily establishing itself as a leading MICE tourism hub in Asia. To further develop the MICE market in 2025 and beyond, the city will implement policies such as providing consultation on arrival procedures for MICE groups, organising artistic performances, gifting souvenirs, and supporting media coverage for MICE events in Da Nang. It will also collaborate with local businesses to offer discounts and incentives for MICE travellers. Through these efforts, Da Nang aims to attract additional tourists and achieve its ambitious growth targets.
