Tam Thanh Commune in Tam Ky City, Quang Nam province has developed its own community-based tourism by incorporating art and promoting traditional craft villages to create more tourism products along with improving tourist services.
Fishing is the main source of income for the local people of Tam Thanh Commune, Tam Ky City, Quang Nam province, earning them sufficient income each day. In order to help residents improve their livelihood, local authorities have launched a community-based tourism project that takes advantage of the locality's potential in terms of geographical conditions and cultural features. The project involves the participation of local residents in order to gain new insight.
Bringing art to life is the main idea of the project, aiming to build an art village with a road of painted coracles. The idea received the support of local residents. Some have donated their old coracles while others gave a helping hand to artists to transport items. This idea has helped create a new tourism product for the locality.
In order to promote community-based tourism in the long run, local authorities have started saving funds in which residents can contribute some of their money. This allows the community to borrow money from the fund and pay it back. In addition, the project has also received about 44,000 USD from the Vietnam Electrical Equipment Joint Stock Corporation, 30% of which can be borrowed to be used for tourism services.
