Centre launched to support businesses in promoting export of Halal products

VTV.vn - A ceremony was held by the Vietnam Certification Centre (QUACERT) under the Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality in Hanoi on April 24 to announce the establishment of the Vietnam Halal Certification Authority - HALCERT.

The event was attended by Ha Minh Hiep, Acting Director General of the Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality under the Ministry of Science and Technology; Malaysian Ambassador to Vietnam Dato Tan Yang Thai; and Bui Ha Nam, Director of the Middle East - Africa Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; among others.

Thanks to the Government's determination to develop the Halal industry, especially the joint participation of the Government Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Government Committee for Religious Affairs, and many other ministries and agencies, HALCERT has been established to support businesses producing products that meet Halal standards promote the exports Halal products from Vietnam.

Addressing the ceremony, Director of QUACERT Tran Quoc Dung said: “During the process of developing the project to establish the Vietnam Halal Certification Authority, we have researched many different models, consulted with experts' opinions, attended many seminars and forums, and visited to learn experiences from Islamic management agencies, Halal development agencies, standardisation organisations and foreign Halal testing laboratories to propose a model suitable to Vietnam's reality.”

Highlighting the importance of this milestone, Bui Ha Nam, Director of the Middle East - Africa Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in the context that Vietnamese Prime Minister, Government, localities, and businesses are increasingly interested in expanding the Halal market, the establishment of HALCERT is very important, not only contributing to unifying state management in the field of Halal certification but also creating favourable conditions to help Vietnamese businesses reduce costs and effectively penetrate into the global Halal market".

For his part, Malaysian Ambassador to Vietnam Dato Tan Yang Thai expressed his belief that Vietnam will have more opportunities to export Halal-certified products and penetrate into the Muslim market, which has a populationof more than 1.9 billion Muslims around the world, with anestimated value of 5 trillion USD by 2030.

The Vietnam Halal Certification Authority is responsible for advising leaders on performing state management functions on Halal certification in Vietnam; researching popular Halal standard systems in the world; and certifying products and services according to Halal standards. In addition, the authority will plan and implement discussions, seminars, and training courses related to Halal; provide Vietnamese organisations and businesses with training services on Halal standards and requirements; and carry out domestic and international cooperation related to the field of Halal.
