Prolonged drought and sunny weather affected 13 thousand ha of crops in the South Central Coast and 1600 ha in the North Central Region.
It is forecast that the peak of the drought will continue until the end of August, with total rainfall 10 to 30% lower than previous years' averages. Extreme heat waves are likely, making temperatures soar up to 40 degree Celsius.
Total drought-hit plantations may reach 28 thousand ha in the South Central Coast and 17 thousand ha in the North Central Region. Quảng Nam Province also suffers from salt water intrusion as the water level in the Vu Gia - Thu Bồn River sinks.
