At the meeting, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong stressed that close and friendly ties would continue to benefit the two peoples. He also asked the Cambodian PM to continue the support for the Vietnamese community in Cambodia, helping stabilize their lives and encourage them to contribute to developing Cambodia. From his part, Prime Minister Hun Sen wished to consolidate and develop the traditional bilateral relationship. He expressed his sympathy with people in Vietnam’s central region who have been suffering from floods. PM Sen also said that no matter any global changes, the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia has remained unchanged.
On the same day, State President Tran Dai Quang and National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan also met with the Cambodian leader.
Receiving Prime Minister Hun Sen, President Tran Dai Quang underlined Vietnam's consistent policy of supporting the Cambodian People's Party and Prime Minister Hun Sen. President Quang said he hoped Prime Minister Hun Sen and the Cambodian government would continue to help prevent extremists from sowing national hatred to sabotage friendship and co-operation between the two countries. The Cambodian prime minister expressed the gratitude felt towards Vietnam for its help in liberating Cambodia from the genocidal Pol Pot regime.
During a meeting with the Cambodian Prime Minister, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said Vietnam would work closely with the Cambodian Parliament to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the 2 countries. The anniversary is set to be held next year. The Cambodian PM asked the Vietnamese National Assembly to work closely with Cambodia's National Assembly and Senate to deepen bilateral co-operation.
