The Ho Chi Minh City Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation, in collaboration with the municipal Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, held a ceremony to launch the blood donation campaign.
Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem, who is also the Head of the municipal Steering Committee for the Voluntary Blood Donation Campaign, gave his sincere thanks to blood donators, while affirming that the voluntary blood donations ensure not only the emergency treatment of patients but also requirements in defence and security and natural disaster prevention.
He asked leaders of agencies, units, armed forces, enterprises and schools in the city to encourage the officials, employees and students to donate their blood, towards achieving and exceeding the target of 280,000 donors in 2020.
Immediately after the campaign was launched, hundreds of people registered and donated around 200 units of blood. The City’s authorities expect to mobilise around 10,000 blood donors between April 25 and May 31.
From December 2014 until the end of 2019, over 2.5 million people around the city donated over three million units of blood, ensuring the blood supply for the emergency and treatment.
On the same day, a blood donation fest, with the message of “Safe blood donation – Don’t be afraid of Covid-19”, was held in the northern province of Hai Duong.
The provincial Red Cross mobilised workers from local enterprises, officials, employees and people to join in the event.
The Hai Duong Provincial Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation expected to collect at least 13,500 blood units this year.
Also, this morning, a large number of youths and people in the central province of Nghe An donated their blood, contributing to ensuring the source of blood for emergency care and treatment during the complicated development of Covid-19 epidemic.
