Deo Ca Group, the expressway operator, said the new route will help ease traffic congestion as Tet approaches.
According to Deo Ca Chairman Ho Minh Hoang, the toll exemption for the month will cause revenue losses of VND45 billion (US$1.94 million) to the company.
Since the Chi Lang-Huu Nghi section has not yet been fully completed, the northern end of the current Bac Giang-Lang Son Expressway is still 30 kilometres from the city of Lang Son and 43 kilometres from the Huu Nghi border checkpoint.
During a month where road users won’t be charged, the company intend to assess the toll collection system, the safety system in place and look at other data in order to reach an agreement with Lang Son province on measures to address the project’s financial difficulties, including the above mentioned revenue loss.
The operation of the Bac Giang-Lang Son Expressway has ended years of stagnation in its construction.
