The six-day event has attracted 72 students from six countries in Asia. On August 4th, the students visited Cuc Phuong National Park to learn more about the bio-diversity. Cuc Phuong National Park is the first destination for the participants to learn about environmental issues. Cuc Phuong was Vietnam’s first national park and home to many animals that are at risk in Vietnam.
Kwon Jihae, Korean student said: Before this trip, I never knew that Vietnam was proactive in running activities to protect and preserve wild animals. I think trips like this are very helpful in promoting awareness about environmental protection.
Wang Xinyue, Chinese student said: My friends and I visited the primate rescue centre and the turtle preservation centre this morning. I’ve seen many different kinds of primate. I think they are living in very good conditions and well protected.
Besides attending field trips, the students also took part in discussions with environmental experts.
"The main topic of each discussion is on how to protect the environment and create sustainable methods for environmental protection. Each year, there are more and more universities participating in our programme." Vo Thanh Son, Environmental Studies Centre, Vietnam National University.
According to the organisers, the ASEP will be organised over a ten-year period with a view to promote biodiversity and develop personnel with a global perspective that will be active in environmental campaigning
