Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh affirmed that multilateral cooperation has a special position in Vietnam's foreign policy.
As a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and as ASEAN Chairman in 2020, Vietnam will continue to support ASEM members in strengthening the multilateral system. Vietnam will also be promoting ASEM partnerships in global issues towards peace and sustainable development.
On the side lines of the event, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh met with Mr Josep Borrell, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union and Vice President of the European Commission.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that Vietnam has always valued their relations with the EU and is willing to discuss issues of mutual concern with them. Mr Josep Borrell said that as Vietnam is one of the fastest-growing and most dynamic economies in Asia, both sides have a lot of potential to develop multi-faceted cooperation in many different fields.
