The Hanoi-based ASEAN women group organised a meeting last night with an aim of enhancing solidarity among women in ASEAN.
This meeting of the Hanoi-based group of ASEAN women welcomes Naly Sisoulith, wife of the Laos’ deputy prime minister and foreign minister who is on an official visit to Vietnam. Her visit took place in advance of Laos will become the chair of ASEAN in 2016, the first year of the ASEAN Economic Community.
"This is considered a milestone as Laos is gearing up to become chair of ASEAN. We hope to receive support and learn from female diplomats. We also hope to further bolster bilateral ties", said Naly Sisoulith, wife of Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.
Founded in August, the group of ASEAN women in Hanoi consists of the spouses of diplomats and female diplomats from Vietnam and ASEAN countries. The group serves as a bridge to connect women all over ASEAN, highlighting ASEAN women’s role in fostering co-operation among countries in the bloc.
"Gender equality is the common goal for regional and bilateral cooperation. We are all aware that women play a crucial role in building a stronger ASEAN bloc", said Nguyen Nguyet Nga, wife of Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.
During the working visit to Vietnam this time, The delegation from Laos organised a workshop on fostering special bilateral relations. Various recommendations were brought up to enhance collaboration among women in the region.
