The workshop is a chance for experts on climate change and weather presenters from 7 Asian nations and the World Meteorological Organisation to share knowledge about climate change as well as how to more effectively report news on weather and climate change.
July this year witnessed the highest recorded global temperatures yet. Asia, including Vietnam is considered one among areas most affected by floods and rising sea levels due to global warming. According to a report by the Ministry of Planning and Investment, climate change could cost up to 11% of Vietnamese GDP by 2030.
Due to its impact, experts at the event stressed the importance of raising public awareness on climate change and weather presenters can play an important role in the process as they convey technical information and an easy-to-access and understandable way to the general public. This can help individuals understand their role and that they can contribute to climate change solutions. The event has been organised in response to the upcoming COP21 or Paris Climate Conference in December in Paris.
Tomorrow, the workshop will continue with topics on best practices for weather presenters and climate change communication. We’ll bring you more updates in the next bulletins.
