Launched on December 1, 2007, As If There Were No Separation aired regularly until June 10, 2018, in its original time slot on the first Saturday evening of each month on VTV1. It later continued broadcasting on VTV9 and other channels. To date, the program has facilitated over 3,000 reunions.
The show has featured 119 live broadcasts from Ho Chi Minh City and several from Da Nang and Hanoi. Nearly 140 reunions have taken live on stage, bringing powerful emotional moments to Vietnamese live television and reality programming. Each episode runs for 60 minutes, with special editions running up to 120 minutes. These deeply moving reunions have brought audiences to tears and left lasting impressions on the VTV screen.

Over the years, As If There Were No Separation has worked tirelessly to sustain the program by mobilizing sponsorships, continuing the search for separated loved ones while ensuring journalistic and visual storytelling quality.
As If There Were No Separation will return to VTV1 at 8:10 PM on the first Saturday of each month, starting from April 5, 2025. According to the production team, this comeback is a recognition of the program’s professional quality and a tribute to its tireless humanitarian spirit over the years. The show will l soon introduce several new features to diversify its themes and enhance content quality.
The 187th episode, titled On Fertile Land, will tell the story of a woman who lost contact with her family for over 55–56 years, a heart-wrenching journey of reunion and hope.
