VTV.vn - Ho Chi Minh City’s No. 1 Field Hospital has discharged around 5,000 COVID-19 patients within a month, following their full recovery.

Doctor Nguyen Thanh Truong, the hospital’s director, said that from June 27, the hospital has admitted a total of 9,500 patients, with 5,000 of them having been released following their full recovery after receiving treatment.

The hospital was put into operation on June 26, with 4,500 beds located in the dormitory of the Centre for Defence and Security Education of the Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City branch.

The number discharged is a significant initial positive result thanks to the efforts of the medical team at the hospital, after facing many difficulties in its first stage of operation.

"We will try to complete our task, providing treatment to COVID-19 patients to help many more to be discharged," Truong said.

So far, 21,338 cases in Ho Chi Minh City have recovered since the 4th COVID-19 infection wave hit Vietnam on April 27, according to the Ho Chi Minh City Centre for Disease Control (HCDC).

Currently, medical facilities across the southern hub are providing treatment to 39,114 COVID-19 patients.

Since the fourth wave started from April 27, the city has recorded a total of over 74,800 infections in 36 ongoing outbreaks.

Notably, all infection chains have been zoned off and closely monitored, without any new ones detected, showing positive signs in the city’s COVID-19 fight.

Regarding vaccination against COVID-19, the country has administered 5,013,175 doses, with 4,562,339 people receiving their first dose and 450,836 others having received the full two shots as of July 27.

In Vietnam, the vaccination campaign against COVID-19 started from the morning of March 8, 2021 using the first batch of 117,600 doses of the Astra Zeneca COVID-19 vaccine, with priority given to medical front liners.

On July 10, the Ministry of Health coordinated with the Ministry of National Defence and a number of related units to officially launch the largest ever vaccination campaign in Vietnam with the goal of vaccinating about 75 million people against COVID-19, with 150 million injections in the second half of 2021 and early 2022.

The campaign is being deployed from July 2021 to April 2022 at all eligible vaccination facilities and all levels, including fixed and mobile vaccination venues.
