Speaking at the meeting, Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit criticized the previous statement of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, saying the move was a threat to the future of the Middle East peace process and a flagrant violation of international law. Previously, on November 18, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced that the U.S. government will no longer consider Israel's West Bank settlements inconsistent with international law, which according to Aboul Gheit, this has ended its role as a peace mediator or reference over the past four decades.
