Vietnam has signed 11 bilateral and multilateral free trade agreements (FTAs) and there will be more in near future. However the government has yet to come up with measures to curb smoking/ in relations to free-trade commitments which significantly reduce import tariffs of tobacco.
Each year, Vietnam pays around 1 billion USD for tobacco. The country needs the same amount of money to provide treatments for 5 out of 25 smoking-related diseases.
