A magnitude 5.8 quake hits Hokkaido

VTV.vn - A magnitude 5.8 earthquake rattled Japan's northern island of Hokkaido on Wednesday.

Authorities are warning people to remain cautious as more tremors are possible. Street lights went out temporarily when the quake struck.

Local authorities report 4 people were injured. In Atsuma town, which is the most affected area, more than 100 households are without water. At the main New Chitose airport, about 170 people will have to stay overnight because the railways have suspended service. The Hokkaido Railway Company says nearly 700 people were temporarily stranded in the train cars and more than 250 people remain there overnight.
