VTV.vn - Vietnam's multi-dimensional poverty rate fell from 15.9% in 2012 to 9.1% in 2016. During this period about 6 million people escaped from poverty.

This data was released yesterday in Hanoi by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs and the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences. The UNDP Resident Representative to Viet Nam highly appreciated Vietnam's progress in poverty reduction and its comprehensive growth. However, multi-dimensional poverty rates in the Northern mountainous region and Central Highlands are still two times higher than the national average.

The UNDP says that Vietnam will be able to continue reducing poverty due to Vietnam's ability to ensure inclusive growth and increase its support for poor households.
