As a tribute to this, a ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of friendship between the 2 nations took place in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh.
Cambodian Senate President Samdech Say Chhum attended the event alongside many high-ranking officials of the Cambodian government. On behalf of the Cambodian people, Say Chhum expressed a sense of gratitude for the contributions of the Vietnamese government and people to his nation. Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Thạch Dư reiterated that both Vietnam and Cambodia had walked side by side through both countries' struggles for peace and freedom.
Vietnam had assisted in the liberation of the Cambodian people from Pol Pot's Genocidal Regime in 1979. The 2 sides continue to collaborate in many fields.
