44 new caves found in Phong Nha Ke Bang

VTV.vn - Phong Nha Kẻ Bàng National Park researchers have recently discovered 44 new caves within the area.

The team has identified the coordinates and conducted a basic description of the caves. The new caves are located in the communes of Dân Hóa, Hóa Sơn, Trung Hóa, Thượng Hóa, Sơn Trạch, Trường Sơn, and Trường Xuân. According to the researchers, 44 new caves were discovered in six different geological layers. With this finding, the total number of known caves in Phong Nha  Kẻ Bàng has risen to 405.

In 2017, as many as 58 new caves were been discovered in the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park. All 58 new cave are located in the buffer zone communes of Minh Hoa district.

The Phong Nha - Ke Bang system belongs to the districts of Quang Ninh, Bo Trach, and Minh Hoa in Quang Binh province. The Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park was declared a World Natural Heritage by UNESCO twice in July 2003 and July 2015. It is also home to the world’s largest cave, Son Doong.

Quang Binh province welcomed over 1.8 million tourists in the first half of 2018, up nearly 17% year-on-year. Foreign arrivals surged by more than 22% with nearly 90,000 visits, according to the Quang Binh Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
