3 years of Japan nursing plan

VTV.vn - Some 470 Vietnamese nurses and midwives are studying to work in Japan under the Economic Partnership Agreement between the two countries over the past three years.

The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs’s Department of Overseas LaboUr Management announced the figures on Monday in Hanoi. Vietnamese candidates for nursing and midwifery are finding employment in many hospitals and health care facilities in Japan.

Nguyễn Sơn Hà went to Chiba Prefecture, Japan to work as a nurse under the agreement in June 2014. After half a year of study and practice, beginning in 2015, he passed the examinations and set a goal that he would secure Japanese national nursing certification this year.

Nguyen Son Ha, Nurse, Satsuki-dai Hospital, Chiba Prefecture, Japan said: Japanese certificates are very difficult to obtain. It’s hard for native Japanese, but even harder for foreigners. It requires not only expertise but also Japanese language skills

Yozo Yada, Director, Satsuki-dai Hospital, Chiba Prefecture, Japan said: I think Vietnamese nurses are excellent. We’re looking forward to having more Vietnamese nurses to Japan under this programme.

The Department of Overseas LaboUr Management said that currently there are 470 Vietnamese candidates which can study and work in Japan for a maximum period of three years for nurses and four years for domestic helps, under an agreement extended yearly.  So far Vietnam has 15 nurses that have passed Japanese national certification and are allowed to stay in Japan for long-term work.

Pham Viet Huong, Deputy Director, Overseas LaboUr Management, Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs said: The eligible candidates if selected will be trained in Japanese for free for 12 months in Vietnam. During training in Vietnam the candidates will have their living costs covered and also receive some additional funding.

Ryusuke Momoi, First Secretary, Japanese Embassy in Vietnam said: Surveys in hospitals and health care facilities that have Vietnamese nurses, show that over 60% of the nurses and 80% of the midwives are rated good. We appreciate the programme and hope it will continue for many years.

Currently 210 candidates in nursing and midwifery are in the 4th term are being trained in Japanese and the candidates for the 5th term will be considered for admission at the end of this year.
