VTV.vn - Scientists have warned that 2019 may become the hottest year in recorded human history. An El Niño event is underway and will amp up extreme weather already made worse by climate change.

At the beginning of this year, many places such as South America or Australia experienced record heat. In January, Australia experienced an unusually long heatwave with unprecedented high temperatures that reached almost 50 degrees Celsius.

In Vietnam, it's been forecast that over the next 5 months, the average temperature will be 0.5 - 1 degree Celcius higher than it was during the past several years. From now until next month, the southern region will continue to experience sunny weather with temperatures of up to 38 degrees C.

The Northern and Central regions will also start experiencing heat waves in April.
