VTV.vn - After nearly 40 days of operation, Field Hospital No. 8 in Ho Chi Minh City has discharged 10,000 COVID-19 patients following their effective treatment there.

Many of them have recovered and returned to their families healthy after only one week of treatment thanks to the efforts of the more than 700 medical staff who have been accompanying them to beat COVID-19.

The Board of Directors of the hospital said that they always follow the guidance from the Ministry of Health on COVID-19 diagnosis and treatment, as well as on boosting testing, with the total number of samples tested between its establishment and August 20 reaching over 13,000 samples.

Doctors always closely monitor and intervene early in cases with underlying diseases, old age, and obesity, before the disease gets worse.

Handling discharge on schedule and keeping the number of patients in and out at a high level also helps the hospital to promptly receive new patients, thus reducing the pressure on the community during the fourth outbreak due to the Delta variant in Ho Chi Minh City.

Meanwhile, there are positive signals in COVID-19 treatment in the provinces of Dong Thap and Binh Duong, with the reduction in mortality rate in Dong Thap and the increasing number of discharges for mild and moderate cases in Binh Duong.

In order to reduce the mortality rate to the lowest level for Dong Thap’s COVID-19 patients, the Ministry of Health has set up a 50-bed emergency resuscitation unit at Sa Dec Hospital while providing the province with more equipment and human resources from central-level hospitals.

In Binh Duong, it comes as good news that the number of people recovering with only mild or moderate symptoms has continued to increase rapidly in recent days, however the treatment capacity of Binh Duong's health system is still under great pressure.

The Ministry of Health suggested that Binh Duong expand the treatment capacity for COVID-19 patients with mild or no visible symptoms as they may account for 80% of the total. Additionally, the province needs to step up the distribution of safety medicine bags to the people and maximise the private health system, aimed at providing timely treatment to minimise patient's severe and unpredictable changes.

On August 20 and 21, a working group from the Ministry of Health conducted technology transfer and provided training on a number of techniques for the treatment of COVID-19 patients to medical staff in the three provinces of Ca Mau, Bac Lieu and Soc Trang.
