Japan got off to a quick lead outpacing Vietnam in the first set of the match 25-16. They kept up the brisk pace in the second set and won 25-22.
Vietnam bounced back in the third and fourth sets winning each game with the same score of 25-22.
Vietnam, however flexed its muscle in the fifth and final set steadily scoring off Japan’s errors, and pulled it out down the stretch 18-16.
Vietnam next faces off with Mongolia on May 21 in the second match of the tournament.
