VTV.vn - 105 years ago, President Ho Chi Minh marked an important milestone in Vietnam's history when he left on a trip to seek a path for national liberation.

Ho Chi Minh’s path differed from those of many others, but he saw it as the best way to save the country. During French colonialism, Indochina was one of France’s most lucrative colonial possessions. . Many movements for national liberation were led by patriots, but all ended in failure.

"Many movements took place nationwide, like uprisings, reform movements, or movements to study abroad, but all failed.  In light of these failed attempts, Nguyen Ai Quoc decided to leave the country to seek new a way to freedom", Dr. Vu Minh Giang - Former Vice President of Vietnam National University - said.

"The ideals of Liberty and Equality were central to the French Revolution in 1789. This inspired Ho Chi Minh to leave the country, hoping to bring these ideals back to his homeland", Dr. Ngo Vuong Anh - researcher - said.

On June 5, 1911, President Ho Chi Minh embarked on the Latouche Treville ship, which departed Nha Rong wharf for a journey abroad. He went with nothing but great patriotism, and returned with a bright future for the Vietnamese nation. Ho Chi Minh's wise vision was praised in a scientific workshop held by The Ho Chi Minh National Political Academy.

"Ho Chi Minh brought the progress and achievements of humankind to Vietnam. The August Revolution’s success put an end to thousand of years of monarchy, opening the doors to socialism, with the targets being independence, freedom, and happiness. Vietnam could not have done this without Ho Chi Minh", Dr. Vu Minh Giang added.

Ho Chi Minh was not the only patriot in Vietnam under French colonialism, yet, only his path led Vietnam to regain its independence.
