The new department will operate separately from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. In its role as a consultative agency, it will help the city’s people’s committee manage tourism activities and carry out assigned tasks.
The new department will also be responsible for preserving, using and developing tourism resources, sites and the environment. It also has a responsibility to come up with plans and tourism promotional programmes and hold fairs, conferences and exhibitions approved by the city.
The establishment of a separate department to regulate the city's tourism issues is supposed to improve tourism promotion and help utilise the city's strengths.
