Among the groups of goods used to measure the index, sugar and petrol are expected to rise. There will also be a gradual increase in the price of rice, while the price of fresh foods, fertilizer, livestock feed and building materials will remain stable.
The department also noted that sugar prices may be higher due to an increase in demand in the summer. It's expected that though global petrol prices will remain stable in May, local petrol prices will continue to fluctuate and are likely to increase.
