This year, as Buddha’s birthday falls on the same day as International Children’s Day, Buddhist dignitaries in Ninh Binh province are gifting 450 million VND, or more than 20,000 US dollars, for 400 poor students in the province and the two neighbouring ones, Nam Dinh and Ha Nam.
Also on Sunday, a fund for earthquake victims in Nepal was announced. In the past few days, Buddhist dignitaries, monks, and followers across Vietnam received congratulations from officials on the occasion of this important celebration. Buddhism constitutes the largest religious community in Vietnam with over 12 million followers, 40,000 monks and nuns, and almost 15,000 temples, monasteries and other places of worship.
