The event is part of VACI, or Vietnam water Cooperation Initiative - the Vietnam-based global platform to share innovative water solutions with an emphasis on Vietnam and tropical water issues. Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai attended the event.
Speaking at the event, Hai stressed that water security has become a global strategic issue. Many countries have been actively prioritising water issues, and now consider water as a strategic resource for the sustainable development.
According to World Meteorological Organisation, only 2.5% of Earth's water is freshwater, but only 1% is found in rivers, swamps and lakes. This also means more than 1 billion people in the world are living with water shortages.
The issue is becoming even more concerning along with increasing water demands, economic growth, urbanisation and unexpected natural disasters.
