The team from Vietnam’s Central Highlands only need a draw to eliminate Myanmar in Group A, after both teams had been defeated by the leading South Korea.
Myanmar took an early lead in the 7th minute after Zang Naing Oo defeated goalkeeper Van Tien.
Hoang Anh Gia Lai pressured on Myanmar’s goal and Cong Phuong, the striker who will be transferred to Japan’s J-League 2 club Mito Hollyhock next year, passed Myanmar goalkeeper’s Thisar Min and leveled the score with a header.
But it was Hoang Anh Gia Lai’s weak defense that resulted in the second goal for Myanmar in the 35th minute, after Mg Mg Lwin scored easily with a header at a clear position.
Only two minutes later, Van Toan got a pass from Tuan Anh to level the score, once again.
Hoang Anh Gia Lai scored two more goals in 64th and 83rd minute by Kim Hung and Minh Vuong.
In extra time, Yint Aung shortened the difference after getting the ball that bounced out from goalkeeper Van Tien.
Earlier on the same day, Vietnam defeated Singapore 2-1 to lead group B.
In the semifinals, Vietnam will play against Hoang Anh Gia Lai at on November 26 while South Korea will play Singapore on November 27. Both matches are due to begin at 6 p.m. and will be broadcasted live on VTV6.
