VTV.vn - Drought has not only caused damage to agricultural production, but also affected the development of the tourism industry in the Central Highlands.

Bay Nhanh Waterfall is a famous destination which used to be filled with tourists each weekend. Tourists usually come here to see the waterfall and cross a suspension bridge. However, this year, the number of tourists has dropped sharply as the river has become dry.

"The drought has caused many difficulties to tourism agencies like us. It’s obvious that the tourists aren’t so impressed when visiting here now", Nguyen Tru, Chairman of Ban Don Eco-tourism Company, said.

At Tha Luong River wharf – a famous tourism destination in Ban Don, water levels are now very low. One of the most populartourism products in the area are elephant rides across the Serepok River. However, as the river has been reduced to a trickle, the tour has lost its attractiveness.

"We are worried that as the Serepok River is dry, both the landscape and water supply in the area will be severely affected. We hope the authority builds a dam to ensure sufficient water supply for local residents and help preserve the ecosystem", Nguyen Duc, Vice Director of Biet Dien Tourism Company, Dak Lak Province, said.

Besides the impact of hydropower dam construction, drought has meant significant losses to the region’s tourism development.
