Accordingly, workers in the tourism industry of a country can be recognized and work in any country in the ASEAN region. Vietnam's tourism workers will benefit from this agreement, but they also encountered several immediate challenges.
The ASEAN Mutual Recognition Arrangement on Tourism allows people from ASEAN countries the right to use their countries' certificates to work in Vietnam. The Vietnamese Tourism Company said that they are willing to recruit workers from ASEAN countries.
Le Cong Nang, Head of Communications Dep. Vietran Tour Company said: "We have the opportunity to receive workers who know about tourism and have experience working in the field to develop our tourism industry. We welcome high quality workers from the ASEAN community".
From now on, tourism workers in Vietnam will have to share the work with workers from other ASEAN countries. But it seems that we are to not ready for the competition.
Students of Hanoi Tourism College said:
- Do you know about the ASEAN Mutual Recognition Arrangement on Tourism?
- I don’t know.
- I’m not quite sure.
- I don’t know either.
Not only is there a lack of information, in order for Vietnamese tourism workers to be able to work in ASEAN countries, they will also need to improve their skills.
Do Dinh Cuong, Vice President of Hanoi Tourism Association said: "We need to train a lot more. For example in languages; our language skills are not very good. If we want to work abroad, we need to know other languages, at least English. Secondly, we need to know about other countries' customs and traditions so that we can integrate".
The ASEAN Mutual Recognition Arrangement on Tourism provides a set standard of tools for training and assessing the ability of tourism workers. According to experts, Vietnam needs to promptly add these tools into its tourism vocational training.
