Army helps flood clean-up efforts

VTV.vn - Record flooding has caused severe damage in Quang Ninh Province. However, through this difficult time, the military and the police are showing their commitment to help local residents to recover from the disaster.

It is five days since the residents of Quang Ninh Province suffered the most severe flooding in 40 years. The rain has gradually stopped, but the recovery process has just begun. Everywhere, soldiers from the Vietnamese Army are working hand in hand with local people to clean up the damage.

Tong Thi Lam Resident, Yen Kieu Commune, Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Prov. said: "The troops are very helpful. They helped clear the road. They worked very hard. We feel very thankful".

5000 troops from Military Zone 3, the 170th navy battalion and the 147th battalion were mobilized to help rescue more than 700 households in isolated areas.

Colonel Nguyen Huu Luu, Deputy Commander, Quang Ninh’s military command said: "The Vietnam People’s Navy deployed the 126th Battalion, a naval special forces unit, to help rescue people in dangerous area".

Together with the army, the police have also helped rescue people in areas hit by landslides. They are also on the roads 24/7 to direct traffic.

Colonel Do Van Luc, Director, Quang Ninh Police Department said: We are focused on protecting people's possessions.

We also on the alert to cope with any emergency situation and are ready to deploy in difficult areas at any time.

Post-flood recovery efforts are ongoing in the north-eastern province of Quang Ninh, which have so far cost an estimated VND15 billion  or (US$720,000).
