Vietnam currently has more than 11,000 sex workers. This is the statistic given at a conference reviewing the 5-year action plan against prostitution from 2011 to 2015 held in Hanoi this morning.
According to the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, this figure may be larger in reality, because, given its complex and subtle nature, the illegal practice is hard to control. The Ministry also noted that drug use among sex workers tends to increase, posing risks for the community.
The Ministry requested relevant government offices and organizations to join hands and come up with more practical measures to fight prostitution in the coming 2016-2020 period.
