People should not rely on any information uploaded on the Internet to arrive at any conclusion on the election of the four top leadership positions, including the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Prime Minister, National Assembly Chairman, and State President, for the 2016-20 tenure, Truong Minh Tuan, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications, said at a meeting on Monday.
During the final plenary meeting of the 11th Party Central Committee that ended on January 13, some rumors appeared on social media, revealing the names of those chosen as the candidates for election to the posts at the 12th National Party Congress, slated for January 20 to 28.
The reports even included the specific votes they received to be the candidates, whereas that kind of information is considered secret as per regulations.
Nguyen Phu Trong, Nguyen Tan Dung, Nguyen Sinh Hung and Truong Tan Sang are currently holding the four top posts, respectively.
Deputy Minister Tuan acknowledged the existence of these reports at the meeting to debut a press center dedicated to the 12th National Party Congress, regarded as a grand event of the Southeast Asian country.
The personnel preparation for the congress has been conducted in a democratic and serious manner, in accordance with the regulations promulgated by the Vietnamese Communist Party, Deputy Minister Tuan asserted.
He added that the official result of the election of the top leadership positions will only be announced after the congress concludes.
The 12th National Party Congress, which will take place in Hanoi, will see the attendance of 1,510 delegates representing over four million Party members across the country.
The event is of great significance in setting the development orientation for the Vietnamese Party, people and military, as well as electing the new leaders for the next five years.
The plenary meeting of the 11th Party Central Committee, which opened on January 11 and was composed of 14 sessions, was organized to prepare personnel and work out a list of candidates for the key leadership posts which will be presented for voting at the congress.
The press center launched on Monday is meant to provide official information about the 12th National Party Congress.
The press center was established on April 3, 2015, along with the official new website devoted to the congress at http://daihoi12.dangcongsan.vn (in both English and Vietnamese), Nguyen The Ky, deputy chief of the Central Commission for Propaganda and Education, said.
