India's Independence Day marked in HCM City

VTV.vn - On August 14, the Union of Friendship Organizations and the Vietnam-India Friendship Association (VIFA) in Ho Chi Minh City celebrated the 68th anniversary of India’s Independence Day (1947-2015)

Those in attendance included representatives from municipal agencies, Indian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Smita Pant, business representatives, Indian people living and working in the city along with numerous students.

In her address, Nguyen Thanh Xuan, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam-India Friendship Association reiterated that Vietnam and India have maintained a long-standing and close-knit relationship stemming from similarities in culture, art and religion. The two nations always give each other fine sentiments in all circumstances. In the current period, the time-honoured relationship has been lifted to a new height, growing considerably across a variety of sectors.

Both nations have closely coordinated and offered mutual support at regional and international political and economic forums, she said.

The two municipal friendship organizations want to intensify coordination with India Consulate General to launch more cross cultural exchange and people-to-people diplomacy programs, and strengthen trade links thereby stepping up effective cooperation for mutual benefit.

Recalling the history of India’s Independence Day, Indian Consul General in HCM City Smita Pant expressed her delight at the solid relationship between the two countries fostered by leaders during the past years while hoping that the relationship will continue to grow stronger in the future.

General Consulate of India are organizing many events aiming to increase mutual understanding of Vietnamese and Indian people, promote tourism and introduce potential for investment in Vietnam. Additionally, the Indian carrier Jet Airways’ opening of direct flights from New Delhi and Mumbai to HCM City will contribute to further spurring trade ties and tourism cooperation between the two countries, she noted.
