Receiving officials of the Vientiane People’s Council, Chairwoman of the HCM City People’s Council Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam said the Lao delegation’s visit is made amid the celebration of 40 years since Vietnam and Laos signed a treaty of friendship and cooperation and 55 years since they set up diplomatic relations.
It is a chance for both sides to learn from each other’s experience and discuss long-term cooperation orientations, thereby helping to reinforce Vietnam-Laos traditional relations, she noted.
She congratulated Vientiane on its socio-economic achievements in recent years which, she said, illustrate efforts by the capital city’s administration and people.
Tam also voiced her belief that Vientiane will continue to develop strongly in the time ahead, with the effective contribution of the municipal People’s Council.
For her part, Vice Chairwoman of the Vientiane People’s Council Khamphong Phumvongxay said their trip aims to help promote the two countries’ relations and affirm that the Lao people always keep in mind the Vietnamese people’s assistance to their country’s fight for national independence.
She added as the Vientiane People’s Council was just established in 2016, her delegation wants to learn from experience of and bolster cooperation with the People’s Councils of HCM City and Hanoi.
